Meta's Louisiana Data Center Will Cost Over $50 Billion

Meta is going seriously big in the South. The company announced that its planned Hyperion data center supercluster, located in Richland Parish, Louisiana, will carry a price tag of more than $50 billion — making it one of the most expensive infrastructure projects in the tech industry's recent memory.

The facility is being designed as a 5-gigawatt operation, which is an almost staggering amount of power capacity. To put that in perspective, a single gigawatt can power hundreds of thousands of homes, so we're talking about a site that will draw more electricity than some small countries consume. Data centers at this scale are essentially the physical backbone of AI — they're where the computing muscle lives.
